This was the second year Wil Wheaton
came to the San Diego Comic Con, and I have to admit, I think it is a great idea
for him to be there! For those who, like I did 14 months ago, think Wil
Wheaton did Stand By Me then Start Trek the Next Generation and then fell off
the map, have I got news for you! Take a look at the links below and you
will discover that this man has been steadily working for a career that almost
seems to have kept him busy every waking minute of his life! (Some of his
projects are not available through amazon.com which is how I quickly set up the
links below.)
In
fact, this year he took a red-eye flight from New York, landed at Lindbergh
field in San Diego and came straight to the convention center to start
signing! He had missed some signing times because of that last minute gig
in New York, but he was happy to tell people that while he was sorry he had
missed them the day before he had a good reason, he's still actively working!
Last
year Wil's brother had come down from L.A. with him, but he wasn't sitting
behind the table with his brother as the gentlemen who worked with him this year
did. Instead last year Wil's brother was casually moving about the
crowd and whenever he saw someone, such as myself, pull out a camera he'd offer
to take your picture with Wil, promise he was a nice guy (which he is!) and also
assure you he won't bite if you walk up to his table and say "Hi!"
If
this man has the stereotypical actor's ego, he conceals it well. He makes
his own sign to hang above his table, he brings his own photos and pulls them
out, and he doesn't mind in the least (or so it seems) if you just want to hang
out and talk. In fact, he seems to love people asking what he's been up to
and letting him gush with excitement over the projects he's been working
on. Having recently seen him on PAX TV's twice in a lifetime where he
played a very adult character it was great for me to see how he is making the
transition from young lead to adult possibly character actor. And yet, I
think Character Actor would be a great job for this man as he seems to just love
slipping into a wide variety of characters.
