Panic Room
There's Going to be a Nation Wide Panic in theaters starting March 29, 2002!

What they Say:  When Meg (a divorced, single mother) and her daughter are caught in the middle of a burglary after purchasing their spacious New York brownstone, they are forced to take advantage of the hidden room--the "panic room"--as they try to evade their intruders.

What I Say:  Hitchcock invented the thriller, and David Fincher is picking up that legacy and going forward.

This is an unlikely story of two ordinary people, a mother and her daughter, doing whatever it takes to live through their first night in a new house.  Those ordinary creaking sounds and creepy feelings aren't so ordinary for them though -- for they are the tell tale signs of a home invasion.

This is an awesome adventure with very real people making very real decisions -- the entire audience I saw the movie with was glued to their seats, rooting for the good guys, and every now and then getting a healthy tension breaking laugh, only to be raised right back up to that same level of tension, if not higher, within seconds.

While each actor turned in truly remarkable performances I have to admit I was in awe of Kristen Stewart's performance as the daughter who grows up overnight and is forced to make very adult decisions.  Forest Whitaker always had me, and the rest of the audience, in his corner -- whatever he was doing.  Good Bad or Indifferent we just wanted to see him come out on top.  All of the characters had great depth, but in Burnham I found complexity, more than just motive and past, but angst about the future and an understanding that every action results in something.  Most of the characters were only concerned about how the night would end... and given how the night was going they had every reason to be concerned about how the night would end!
