NBC’s critically acclaimed police drama “Boomtown” (Sundays, 10-11 p.m. ET) has received the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award for creative excellence, continuing the organization’s tradition of honoring quality NBC drama series.

In bestowing the honor, the Peabody Board selected “Boomtown” as “…a police program which presents street-level Los Angeles stories from multiple perspectives and in so doing, refreshes and renews the police procedural genre.”

Earlier, the series also won the AFI Award as one of the top 10 programs of the year in 2002.

“Boomtown’s” recognition is the latest in a history of Peabody Awards for NBC dramas. “Third Watch” was feted in 2001 while other recent NBC drama series winners include “The West Wing” in 2000 and 1999, “Homicide: Life on the Street” in 1993, 1995 and 1997, and “ER” in 1994.

Heath Ledger fans take note -- wanna see him how America first found him???

Ledger was tapped by FOX to head the cast of the medieval drama Roar, in which Ledger portrayed the Celtic warrior-prince Conor. The series lasted for only 13 episodes, but led to a multitude of new opportunities for the young Aussie thespian.

From there he went on to star in 10 Things I Hate About You opposite Julia Stiles, The Patriot with Mel Gibson, and A Knight's Tale! And now, the show Americans first saw him in has found its way back onto American Television sets thanks to Sci Fi Channel!

Tune in April 2 to see:

It is the 5th century in England, and the last Celtic tribes still struggle against the Roman invaders. King Derek seeks to unite the tribes, but King Gar refuses to listen. Derek's younger son, Conor, rescues a slave girl who is fleeing warriors from another tribe, but the girl disappears into the forest. Conor's brother is marrying the daughter of another chieftain, but Conor's heart belongs to Claire (Keri Russell), Gar's daughter.

When Gar's wife, Queen Diana, announces that her Roman cousin is visiting soon, he decides to attack and destroy Derek's village. Conor and Claire return from their secret rendezvous to find Conor's village in flames and everyone dead. Claire confronts her father, but he ignores her questions. Meanwhile, Diana's 400-year-old advisor Longinus tells Gar that one villager still lives, and Gar sets his men after Conor.

Conor discovers that he is not the only survivor of his village; Fergus, the village champion, had fallen into a cellar while drunk and thus escaped the fire. Conor then meets the mysterious old wizard Galen, who claims Conor will take his father's place and unite all the tribes.

Gar catches Conor and Claire together, but Claire sacrifices herself to save Conor from her father. At her funeral, Galen urges Conor to "hear the roar" of his ancestors. When Claire's image guides Conor to his father's sword, he accepts his fate and agrees to lead the refugees hidden within the forest.

Gar and Diana meet with her cousin Julian and unite their forces. The refugees attack a short time later. Longinus and Galen battle, and it is revealed that Longinus is the centurion who speared Jesus on the cross and was cursed with eternal life and damnation. With a magical blast, Galen defeats Longinus, who disappears.

Conor overpowers King Gar, who tries to buy his freedom, but Queen Diana takes Conor's sword and stabs her own husband, saying that Gar had betrayed them both. After their victory, the refugees ride away with Conor as their leader. Galen watches their departure, then silently vanishes.

Claire -- is played by KERI RUSSELL and Queen Una by Farscape's Virginia Hey!

From SciFi Wire:

Three sailors from the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise CVN 65 will appear as crew members on the starship Enterprise NX-01 in an upcoming episode of the UPN series, the official Star Trek Web site reported. The "Sailors of the Year" were selected by an internal Navy committee: Petty Officer Kathy J. Grant (Senior Sailor of the Year), Petty Officer James D. Frey (Junior Sailor of the Year) and Corpsman Thomas P. Hunt (BlueJacket of the Year), the site reported.

The cast and crew of Enterprise invited the sailors to make guest appearances on the show. Their scenes will appear in the upcoming episode "First Flight," directed by LeVar Burton. The episode airs May 14.

It was the second year in a row that "Sailors of the Year" from the real Enterprise have been invited to be on the fictional Enterprise. Last year's honorees made appearances in the episode "Desert Crossing."

At the bottom of today's bulk e-mail from the WB about Smallville was this note:

Contribute to humanitarian aid efforts, and show your support for the troops overseas. Find out what you can do at http://www.networkforgood.org/index.html

Whether you believe in the war or not, wanting our citizens to return safely to their families is undoubtedly on your mind. We commend the WB for sharing this url with their viewers.

If the Pilot for Black Sash is anything to judge by, this is a show I'll be watching week after week.

Our hero is imperfect, and certainly doesn't consider himself a hero, still turning to his own teacher for advice... but he wants to help others find contentment with their lives, and acceptance of the challenges they are facing, and the results of how they face those challenges, whatever they may be.

All in all, it made for a very nice way to spend an hour.

For most shows this would be standard fare, but for Boomtown it is something new:

Tonight on NBC -- FEARLESS FACES A CHILDHOOD DEMON IN A SPECIAL SINGLE POINT-OF-VIEW EPISODE - In a special episode told from his point of view, detective Smith (Mykelti Williamson) relives a painful event from his childhood while investigating the shooting death of a small-time drug dealer. Shaken by his former relationship with the victim and the horrific trauma they shared, Smith must make a life-altering decision as he attempts to battle a childhood demon. Donnie Wahlberg, Neal McDonough, Gary Basaraba, Jason Gedrick, Lana Parrilla and Nina Garbiras also star.
