Word on the web is that the WB has pulled the plug on the Gilmore Girls spin-off that was to star Rob Estess, formerly of Silk Stalkings.

I note the Sillk Salkings credit as it was a beach based show -- and the reason cited for giving up on the spin-off is the expense the show felt was inevitable if they tried to do a show set at Venice Beach, CA. While we here at PopArtsPlace are more than willing to concede filming at Venice Beach would likely be a budget breaker, Rob Estes did extremely well filming beach and seaside scenes down in San Diego for Silk Stalkings -- so why not head a tad south for your filming and let this spin-off have a chance?

Then again, this opens up a mid-season slot in the WB line-up prompting many to wonder if there is in fact hope for Black Sash to return.

Brittany Murphy (8 Mile) Dakota Fanning (I am Sam) and Heather Locklear (Melrose Place) star in Uptown Girls -- look for it in a theater near you this AUGUST. You can watch the trailer and get more information on the movie by going to the Official Uptown Girls Website here
