And more good news from CBS. July 7 the powers that be announced:

Two established comedies that originated on CBS's top-rated Monday night lineup will now anchor a new hour of comedy on Wednesday nights starting this fall.

BECKER, starring Emmy Award-winner Ted Danson, which was renewed for a sixth season last month, will be broadcast Wednesday (9:30-10:00 PM) following THE KING OF QUEENS.

THE STONES, about two adult children (Jay Baruchel and Lindsay Sloane) living in their childhood home with their divorcing but still friendly parents (Robert Klein and Judith Light), will now premiere mid-season. The series is from producers David Kohan, Max Mutchnick and Jenji Kohan.

"This move is designed to further strengthen our fall schedule and to give THE STONES, a freshman series that we are very excited about, the best opportunity to succeed," said Nancy Tellem, President, CBS Entertainment. "By pairing BECKER with KING OF QUEENS, we are opening a new comedy block on Wednesday with two proven and successful series. Both of these shows provide instant name recognition for a new hour of comedy.

"And, by saving THE STONES for mid-season, we will be able to devote much more of CBS's promotional resources to its launch than we could have in the fall," Tellem added. "This is a smart, funny series from a great producing team and we want to do everything possible to ensure its successful launch."

BECKER, broadcast last season at 8:30 PM on Sunday, improved the time period by +9% in viewers (10.73 million), +4% in households (7.2/11), +9% in adults 18-49 (2.5/6) and +6% in adults 25-54 (3.3/7). During the 2001-2002 season, when it was broadcast on Monday, BECKER ranked 11th among all programs with 16.3 million viewers and was CBS's second highest rated comedy.

CBS's Wednesday line-up beginning this fall:

8:00-9:00 PM 60 MINUTES II
9:00-9:30 PM THE KING OF QUEENS
9:30-10:00 PM BECKER
10:00-11:00 PM THE BROTHERHOOD OF POLAND, NEW HAMPSHIRE

The beat goes on for NBC’s “American Dreams” as the sophomore drama set in the mid-1960s will again resonate with the sounds of the digital age as Kelly Clarkson (winner of the first “American Idol”), Monica (“The Boy Is Mine”) and multi-Grammy winner Alicia Keys (“Fallin’”) join the growing list of current musical guest-stars in the second-year drama.

In addition, sisters Hilary Duff (“Lizzie McGuire”) and Haylie Duff (“The Lizzie McGuire Movie”) will guest-star in future episodes of “American Dreams.”

One of America's greatest imported treasures is no longer among us.

Here's looking forward to the inevitable specials -- and Bob Hope Marathons as a nation looks back on 100 years of, as NBC called it last April, "Hope and Humor."

On Tuesday, July 29, the remaining five comedians on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” will give their final performances before the viewers vote for whom they feel is the funniest and deserves the title of “Last Comic Standing.” Nearly six months after first performing at the Paris Hotel theater to determine the 10 comedians who moved into the “Comic House” in Los Angeles, California, the five remaining comedians will return to the theater to each perform a 5-minute routine. At the end of the show, viewers will vote by phone or internet for who they feel should be the “Last Comic Standing” and thereby win a talent deal with NBC, a special on Comedy Central and an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

Hosted by Jay Mohr (“Jerry Maguire”), the show will include final performances by Tess Drake, Cory Kahaney, Ralphie May, Dat Phan and Rich Vos. Immediately following all performances, viewers can call 1-866-VOTE4 (01-05) to vote for their favorite comedian. The voting is limited to three calls from any phone line and the phones close one-hour after the show ends. Voting is also available until 9 p.m. PT/12 a.m. ET on Wednesday, July 30 at www.voteNBC.com.
