The power of television:

Lifetime Television movie leads to "Video Voyeur" law

Hollywood Reporter reports that three years after Lifetime Television aired "Video Voyeur: The Susan Wilson Story," a movie that depicted the problems of people who were secretly videotaped in private, President Bush has signed a bill into law prohibiting the practice. Under the Video Voyeurism Protection Act of 2004, violators face up to a year in prison for filming people on federal property in places where privacy is expected.
