COMEDY KING CARL REINER CROSSES OVER TO NBC’S DRAMATIC ‘CROSSING JORDAN’ AS MULTI-TALENTED EMMY WINNER GUEST-STARS AS GRIFTING FATHER

Tony Winner Brian Stokes Mitchell (“Kiss Me Kate”) and Francesco Quinn (“Platoon”) Also Guest-Star

BURBANK, Calif. -- March 14, 2002 -- Emmy Award winner Carl Reiner (“The Dick Van Dyke Show,” “Ocean’s Eleven”) -- legendary actor-writer-director-producer of film and comedy television - will guest-star in a dramatic role on NBC’s “Crossing Jordan” (Mondays, 10-11 p.m. ET) as the estranged, grifter father of Dr. Garret Macy (Miguel Ferrer) who fakes his own death.

Reiner’s episode, “For Harry with Love and Squalor,” will be broadcast on Monday, April 8 (10-11 p.m. ET). In the storyline, the reunion between Garret and his father is less then cordial when a pair of Cuban gangsters threaten to kill the older man over the matter of a missing $100,000.

Likewise, Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell (“Kiss Me Kate”) will also appear as a mysterious, sensuous stranger whom Jordan (Jill Hennessy) meets at Max’s (Ken Howard) bar,the Pogue Mahone, forcing her to examine her uneventful love life and risk a risqué fling.

Francesco Quinn - like Ferrer, the son of a famous celebrity (Anthony Quinn) - also guest-stars as one of the Cuban gangsters. Quinn co-starred in the Oscar-winning feature film “Platoon” and currently is a recurring regular in “JAG.”

Reiner - who first drew industry attention 50 years ago as a cast member and writer for NBC’s memorable classic “Your Show of Shows” - rejoins the Peacock Network in time for its unprecedented 75th anniversary this spring.

Reiner continued in the 1960s to create, produce and co-star in “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” He won Emmys for performing in “Caesar’s Hour” and in a guest role in “Mad About You” and earned two others for writing and producing for “The Dick Van Dyke Show.”

In addition, Reiner made his mark in feature films. He directed “The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming,” “The Man with Two Brains,” and directed and acted in “Fatal Instinct,” “Oh, God,” “The Jerk,” “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid” and “Summer School.” He also recently starred in “Ocean’s Eleven.”

As a three-time Tony nominee, Mitchell won in 2000 for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance in “Kiss Me Kate.” Earlier, he was nominated for “Ragtime” and again last year for “King Hedley II.” He also was a recurring guest star in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and recently guest-starred in NBC’s “Frasier.”

“Crossing Jordan” is a hit freshman drama that has been renewed for the 2002-03 season on NBC.
