Newsflash... a great addition is coming next season!

Lorraine Toussaint, who starred in the civil rights-oriented cable drama “Any Day Now,” will join the regular series cast of NBC’s freshman drama “Crossing Jordan” (Mondays, 10-11 p.m. ET) next year as an aggressive coroner whose modus operandi causes friction among her fellow workers - especially fellow medical examiner Jordan Cavanaugh (series star Jill Hennessy).

Toussaint has starred as Rene Jackson, a prominent lawyer, opposite Annie Potts since “Any Day Now” began in 1998-99. A native of Trinidad, Toussaint first broke into television in 1983 and has been a series regular in “Leaving L.A.,” “Amazing Grace,” “Where I Live” and “Bodies of Evidence.” She also starred in the miniseries “Queen” and in the TV movies “Blackout Effect,” “Nightjohn,” “If These Walls Could Talk,” “The Cherokee Kid” and “A Time to Heal.” She also guest-starred on four episodes of NBC’s “Law & Order” in the early 1990s.

Among Toussaint’s feature films are “Psalms from the Underground,” “Point of No Return,” “Mother’s Boys” and “Hudson Hawk.”

Hennessy stars in the edgy drama as a sexy, brilliant and fearless Boston medical examiner with a checkered career -- and a penchant for going beyond the call of duty to investigate crimes. Miguel Ferrer, Ken Howard, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Ravi Kapoor, Steve Valentine and Kathryn Hahn also star.
