TELEMUNDO STAR MARIA CELESTE ARRARAS
TO GUEST-STAR ON NBC'S 'PASSIONS'
ON NOVEMBER 29 AND DECEMBER 2

Published: November 12, 2002

Arraras Will Appear as Herself During the Show’s Thanksgiving Celebration

BURBANK, Calif. / MIAMI, Fla. -- November 12, 2002 -- Award-winning journalist Maria Celeste Arraras - one of the most popular Spanish-language television news personalities and anchor of “Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste” -- will make a guest appearance on two episodes of NBC's popular daytime drama "Passions" on Friday, November 29 and Monday, December 2, which were previously scheduled to air Wednesday, November 27 and Friday, November 29. This marks the first on-air crossover since NBC and Telemundo merged earlier this year.

Arraras, who joined Telemundo in April 2002, is playing herself in the daytime NBC series. She will be portraying a longtime friend of Pilar Lopez-Fitzgerald (Eva Tamargo Lemus) who visits Harmony to join in their family’s Latin-influenced celebration of Thanksgiving.

“It’s a very exciting challenge because, even though I play myself, the part involves acting, which is something very different from what I do on camera every day,” says Arraras. “I’m also proud to be part of a U.S. Hispanic celebration of Thanksgiving in such a popular soap opera.”

"Through her special Thanksgiving week appearances, we hope Maria Celeste's many fans will discover that ‘Passions’ is just as entertaining and fun to watch as the best telenovelas,” said Sheraton Kalouria, SVP, Daytime Programs, NBC, whose participation in the integration process helped to facilitate this unique cross-network alliance.

“Passions” is daytime’s No. 1 series among females 12-17 for the season.  “Passions” is also the season’s fastest-growing daytime series versus year-ago averages among women 18-49 viewers, up 12 percent over last year.

For the 2001-02 broadcast year, "Passions" is daytime's No. 2 series among women 18-34, behind only NBC's "Days of Our Lives."
