The Jury Never Had a Chance!

If you read my initial review of the Court then you'll recall this final analysis
Bottom Line: I'll tune in again April 2 to see what comes next... and on April 9 we'll see...

As any reviewer will tell you we watch what we have to watch and if we have time we watch what we enjoy watching.  I enjoy Tuesday nights on CBS, so I set a VCR to tape the Court with every intention of viewing the episode today and writing up my review.  However, news reached me that the Court was going on hiatus for who knows how long.

It seems a common problem with major networks these days -- yanking shows before they have time to develop a rhythm or build an audience.  Wednesday 9:30/8:30 central has also been pulled, another show that needed time to find itself and its audience but could have been funny. In fact, it looks like only one mid-season show from ABC (George Lopez) is still on the air!

The Court had an admittedly uphill battle.  Airing opposite Judging Amy (with Chris Sarandon playing Amy's current beau opposite his own performance as one of Kate Nolan's peers on The Court) and getting to the air after CBS' First Monday.

But First Monday and the Court seemed to be approaching the same topic, the supreme court, in very different ways, which should have allowed these two shows to complement one another as opposed to serving as direct competition.

Perhaps the Court will be allowed to return, though I somehow doubt it given there is no trace of the Court on the ABC website just over 12 hours after the show last aired.  If it does return I suggest ABC think seriously about the wisdom of pitting Chris Sarandon against Chris Sarandon and hoping Judge Kate Nolan will be more popular than Judge Amy Gray.  It is an unfair competition.

The Supreme Court so often deals in heavy topics that are abstract to the average persons life.  Family Court Judges however are making decisions that determine a child's future.  That is a very simple concept that every person can relate to, for almost every day, even those without children see a child somewhere, and you would be hard pressed to find a person who disagrees with the remark "children deserve a safe childhood."

PopArtsPlace.com will keep an eye out for Judge Nolan, and her peers (Pat Hingle, Miguel Sandoval, Chris Sarandon, Diahann Carroll) assistants (Nicole DeHuff, Hill Harper, Josh Radnor) and her underdeveloped adversaries (Craig Bierko, Christina Hendricks) to return to ABC and tell us the rest of their individual stories, and more of the stories that affect this nation at large!
