Showtime Online Re-Launches Fan-Developed STARGATE SG-1(TM) Website
Popular Science Fiction Fan Site Gets Reborn as Part of showtimeonline.com

NEW YORK, March 1, 1999 -- Showtime Online has acquired and will host the re-launch of the popular STARGATE SG-1(TM) fan Website, based on the original SHOWTIME science fiction series, on March 1, 1999. The site, which was created a year and a half ago by an independent STARGATE SG-1(TM) fan and accomplished freelance Website developer, will now have a permanent home on http://www.showtimeonline.com. The newly re-launched site will include many new multimedia and video elements, new games and new e-mail features.

In this highly interactive Website, visitors can register with the Stargate Command Center and volunteer for dangerous missions, decode secret transmissions, play exciting games and take post-mission exams based on the original SHOWTIME series -- earning points and increasing their SGC military rank with each success. Fans can also explore the "parallel universe" and access top secret, classified computer files to find synchronized mission updates, behind-the-scenes footage, downloadable stills, virtual reality and more.

"When I first created the STARGATE SG-1(TM) site, it was an experiment in how far I could take Web-based personalization elements," said fan site creator Ryan Peters. "There are a lot of Stargate fans like me out there and the site became overwhelmingly popular -- people came back every day to interact with the site and increase their rank. Eventually it became too much for my systems to handle. Now, the site can be expanded both visually and content-wise and will be better than before. The new site has all of the features fans love -- plus a few new surprises -- but it will be much faster and more interactive."

"When the STARGATE SG-1(TM) independent fan site shut down, SHOWTIME received a significant number of e-mails from fans saying how much they enjoyed and missed the site and asked us to help," said Jeff Morris, Showtime Networks' Senior Vice President of New Media and Technology Development. "When we saw this high level of interest from our viewers, and the impressive quality and depth of Ryan's fan site, it lead us to approach him to re-launch the site as part of showtimeonline.com using our superior resources and systems. We are proud to give this innovative site a new home, and we will continue to work closely with Ryan to add exciting new features in the future."

STARGATE SG-1(TM), produced by MGM Worldwide Television for SHOWTIME, features Richard Dean Anderson ("MacGyver") as Air Force Colonel Jack O'Neill.
