NBC is Saved By the Bell

NBC Enterprises and Lions Gate Home Entertainment are releasing seasons one and two of the cult classic comedy SAVED BY THE BELL for the first time on DVD Tuesday, September 2, 2003. The DVD’s will include all episodes that aired on NBC during the first and second seasons of Saved by the Bell. The five-disc set will be available in stores and at shopnbc.com on Tuesday, September 2. ($49.99)

“For so many years fans spent their Saturday mornings with the kids from Bayside,” said Kim Niemi, SVP, Video, Music, and Product Development, NBC Enterprises. “We’re now able to answer the fans’ request to make this timeless program available for the first time on DVD.”

“This DVD release allows an entire generation who grew up watching Saved By The Bell to recapture a sense of fun, good-humored entertainment and introduces the series to people who may only know its stars from their various other projects,” stated Peter Block, President of Home Video, Acquisitions and New Media for Lions Gate Entertainment. “Saved By The Bell Seasons One and Two is a proud addition to Lions Gate’s burgeoning TV-to-DVD collection that includes Will & Grace Season One and Saturday Night Live titles.”

"Saved By the Bell was without question the highlight of my career,” said Peter Engel, Executive Producer. “Whenever I speak on a college campus, the students, including my sons, ask why we haven’t released “Bell” on DVD. I couldn’t be happier to tell them it is happening now with the release of this collector’s item, full of great memories from a great show.”

Saved By The Bell features six enterprising, adventurous teenage students with inventive schemes and mischievous dreams. The series follows the teens throughout their fun-filled days at Bayside High School and their antic-filled nights at their favorite hangouts, including The Max. Told from the kids' point of view, Saved By The Bell presents the conflicts and chuckles that teen romances inevitably deliver.

Zack sees himself as a heartthrob, and vies with new student A.C. Slater for the attention of Kelly, the prettiest girl in the school. Often involved in their outlandish plots are Screech, the class clown and electronics genius, and Lisa, the school's fashion plate. Jessie tries to be the voice of sanity, often persuading the gang to do the right thing.

School principal Mr. Belding tries desperately to connect with the younger generation but always misses the mark. But Max, owner of the hangout, knows how to reach the kids as he serves up dazzling magic tricks along with the hamburgers.

Saved by the Bell premiered on NBC in September,1989 and was produced by Peter Engel Productions in association with NBC Productions. Peter Engel was the Executive Producer. Saved by the Bell has enjoyed world-wide success, airing in more than 100 countries since its 1989 launch.

Alias' Other Woman Talks , as seen on SciFi.com:

Australian actress Melissa George—who takes on the new role of Vaughn's (Michael Vartan) mysterious wife in ABC's Alias—told TV Guide Online that she'll first appear in the second episode of the upcoming third season. "She will be working in the intelligence community, [but] I'm not saying which part," George told the site. "I'm not going to make her unlovable."

George was hired to play Lauren Reed, a Brit who married Vaughn sometime during Sydney's (Jennifer Garner) two-year absence. "Every woman can relate to being married to somebody [with] another woman [in the picture], and that's basically what is going to be going on," George said. "And she's a very ambitious, very strong, very intelligent woman. She's not going to let too much go past her. And she's very protective of her man, as every woman would be. But at the same time, she really looks up to Jennifer's character. She knows about her. She's read about her. So there's that whole thing going on as well. I think she's going to be fighting a lot of emotions."

As originally conceived, Reed was supposed to be a recurring character. But after George read for the part with Vartan, series creator J.J. Abrams turned it into a regular role, George said. "J.J. Abrams called me directly and asked me if I'd like to be on the show permanently ... long-term," she said. "And I'm like, 'Are you kidding me?' It was a very beautiful moment. I was so happy. It's the best show." Alias returns to its regular Sunday 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot on Sept. 28.

The West Wing...

Award-winning actor Gary Cole has been cast in a recurring role as the new Vice President on NBC’s drama “The West Wing” (Wednesdays, 9-10 p.m. ET). Gary Cole plays Robert Russell, aka “Bingo Bob,” a Congressman from Western Colorado who has some surprising plans for his new role in the White House. Cole will make his series debut in the third episode.

The veteran of more than forty movies, telefilms and TV series, Cole is currently shooting the upcoming feature film, “Win A Date With Tad Hamilton.” He starred in the feature films “One Hour Photo,” “A Simple Plan,” “The Gift,” “I Spy” and “Office Space.” He continued to reprise his spot-on send-up of the family patriarch in the feature films “The Brady Bunch,” “A Very Brady Sequel,” and “The Brady Bunch in the White House.”

On television, he became well known to audiences for his starring role in the NBC television drama series, “Midnight Caller.” He later starred in the NBC mini-series “Fatal Vision,” and the mini-series “Son of the Morning Star.” Cole provided character voices for several animated series including “The Family Guy;” “Kim Possible” and “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law.” He starred in the thriller series “American Gothic” and the award-winning mini-series “From the Earth to the Moon.” Most recently on the small screen, Cole starred in the series, “Family Affair” Cole recently guest starred on the television series “Monk” and “Hack.”

One of the most eagerly anticipated releases of Summer 2003, IN THE PURSUIT OF LEISURE finds multi-platinum pop combo Sugar Ray joined in the studio by longtime producer/collaborator David Kahne – the man behind the board for the band’s top-charting smashes, “Fly,” “Every Morning,” and “When It’s Over.” As with their past collections, the album sees the band blending a wide variety of sounds – including summery island rhythms, funky hip hop grooves, and infectious 80s-inspired melodies – into their own uniquely characteristic pop/rock cocktail. IN THE PURSUIT OF LEISURE features such soon-to-be Sugar Ray favorites as the rollicking “Chasin’ You Around,” the breezily irresistible “Heaven,” and the giddy first single “Mr. Bartender (It’s So Easy).” Also among the album’s many highlights is the band’s delightful cover of Joe Jackson’s 1979 classic, “Is She Really Going Out With Him?”

One of America’s most popular and successful bands for almost a decade, Sugar Ray have achieved total U.S. sales approaching 7 million records. The Southern California-based combo have had a remarkable streak of Top 10 hit singles, including the unforgettable #1 smashes, “Fly” and “Every Morning.”
