Gear Up for Twilight!

PopArtsPlace.com is undergoing a redesign as we recover from some problems introduced by the dreaded human error - please bear with us

Cover ImageFor those of us here on the Pop Arts Place this site is a wonderful opportunity.  We can toss out any idea to the powers that be, and so long as it is Pop Arts Related, and within reason, we can eagerly anticipate the go ahead.

So, I tossed out the very simple concept of "Whatever happened to some of the music folks who hit it big when I was a teen?"  And here I am ready to tell you just a small bit of what I've found out.  (And as I find more you can probably expect updates to this page.)

Just because our culture grows, and what was once a fad fades away in the night doesn't mean the people who were at the height of their careers during that fad disappear from the face of the planet.  Sometimes they even grow and change with it in subtle ways that we aren't nearly as aware of as we might be.

Deborah Gibson is my chosen example of that.  Debbie Gibson as she was known in the '80's didn't stop writing her music just because the sound we were craving changed, she changed with us -- however the magazine writers at large don't seem to have anticipated that, or followed the adjustment.  The girl who once sang of being "Lost in Your Eyes" is now out and about the country with "M.Y.O.B."

She has performed on Broadway in Les Miserables as Eponine, toured the country with Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the role of the narrator, starring along side Osmond Second Generation, and spent time on London's West End as Sandy in Grease.

To find out more about what Deborah's been saying about her career take a moment to drop by the interviews page of her website.  (Or skip straight to a few interviews currently hanging out on the web such as the one at NetRadio.Com, get inspired by her interview at KeepWalking.Com  or read what she had to share with the about.com editor of the UK Top 40 page, read up on her and her career and hear some of her songs at GetMusic.com, or better yet, see what the big guns like VH-1 and  USA Today has to say.)

The Official Deborah Gibson website points you to two places where you can hear clips of her songs.  At the CDNow site which also just happens to sell M.Y.O.B. and a page on her site called the M.Y.O.B. Playground.

So, if you have a friend who you think will get a kick out of M.Y.O.B. why not drop them a cyber postcard and let them know that PopArtsPlace.com reminded you that Deborah Gibson never faded away.  She spent some time on Broadway and she's got another great album out!

For those who want to see just how much this young lady has grown up before our very eyes... check out Rolling Stone's picture page for her.
