Morning 40 Federation Biography

New Orleans has long been considered the musical Mecca of the world. Its 100-year-old musical legacy has spawned almost every legitimate genre of music. It perpetually reinvents itself and creates new styles of music. Musicians who relocate to New Orleans cannot help but have the city put a new stamp on their music. The members of Morning 40 Federation are no exception. Except for one thing. The members of Morning 40 Federation were not musicians when they moved to New Orleans four years ago. They were just six strangers from different cities who felt a certain affinity towards the Crescent City. Their one common interest? Debauchery. This shared appreciation of good times led them to one another. Late night binges on Decatur St. led to even later night binges at friend's houses. One such party three years ago prompted the guys to begin singing lyrics and chants about drinking and living in the 9th Ward of New Orleans. Shortly thereafter, the guys decided to learn how to play instruments.

Early gigs at the Hi Ho Lounge and Checkpoint Charlie's showcased a band literally learning to play their instruments. The band's attitude of "drinking every last dime" proved contagious. A dedicated and inebriated following began to emerge over the next couple of years. Their shows became Monday morning fodder for those who had witnessed the weekend's insanity. Fan participation and dedication grew as did the bands ability to perform musically (nudity, both full and partial, has become almost normal at the hometown shows). Their shows are no longer gigs. They are events.

The music that has kids going completely insane is really what sets Morning 40 Federation apart from other bands. The term "sleazy burlesque" was coined by one fan to describe the band's sound. Their biggest musical influences are Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Tom Waits, and New Orleans' trad jazz legend King Oliver. While each influence is recognizable, the band's overall sound is completely unique. That's what has kept the band's progression steady and sure.
